CREATING A BRIGHTER FUTURE FOR THE NEXT GENERATION IN LONG ISLAND
• The Urban League of Long Island Education & Youth Division works earnestly to develop innovative programs to support academic achievement, civic involvement, and the physical and emotional development of children and youth. The signature programs of the Urban League of Long Island Education & Youth Division, which include early childhood education, post-secondary success, and youth leadership are designed to help achieve the NUL empowerment goal of assuring that every child will be ready for college, work, and life by 2025.
Grades 6-12
• The Urban League’s signature Education and Youth Development (EYD) program which helps 6th-12th grade students progress academically and intellectually, benefit from cultural enrichment opportunities, and develop an attitude that positions them well for success during and after high school.
Ages 16-19
• The UYEP Project seeks to support and nurture youth between the ages of 16-19 through workforce readiness skills and opportunities that will cultivate their soft skills development.
Ages 18-22
• Beyond Project Ready, and before students are eligible to enter the professional realm via YP chapters, there are no programs or initiatives that exist to support students in the process to prepare for work and life. This leaves a wealth of college-aged leaders (Ages 18-22) disconnected from the Urban League of Long Island. The Urban League of Long Island Collegiate Movement serves to empower emerging professionals by providing enhanced support that will prepare college students for work and life in their post-collegiate endeavors through a myriad of opportunities

All children in America deserve a quality education that will prepare them for college, work and life. Education reform and academic achievement are about much more than what happens in the classroom. Our Education and Youth programs work to improve educational opportunities for at-risk students to support their academic achievement, encourage civic involvement through service learning and contribute to their cultural and emotional development. We work to ensure all students, regardless of ZIP code, income, race or ethnicity, are well-taught and held to the same high standards that align with college and work expectations, and that all students have access to high-quality educational content, resources and opportunities essential to ensure post-secondary success.NAS (National Achievers Society) recognizes students for their academic achievements and prepares them for post-secondary education. The program focuses on encouraging, recognizing and reinforcing academic achievement among minority youth to counter pervasive and damaging public images of African-American youth in our society. The goal is to energize adults to re-dedicate themselves to preparing children to meet the academic and job standards of the 21st Century.
